Floor levelling worksheet and bag calculator (UK)

Use a floor survey sheet to record measured zones, proposed build-up and product coverage. “Leveling sheet” can mean a measurement worksheet or a sheet underlay; confirm the intended system before calculating any material.

THE SHORT ANSWER

Use a floor survey sheet to record measured zones, proposed build-up and product coverage. “Leveling sheet” can mean a measurement worksheet or a sheet underlay; confirm the intended system before calculating any material.

Clarify the system and record the survey

This worksheet addresses a measured levelling-compound takeoff. The phrase “leveling sheet” can also refer to a surveying level book; this page does not cover land-survey calculations. If it means a plywood or other sheet underlay, use a board layout and the specified fixing system instead. A pour quantity and a sheet count solve different problems. Confirm what the floor finish and existing substrate require before combining allowances.

Sketch the room and divide it into measured zones in m². Record the survey reference, observed high and low points, proposed finished level and the proposed depth in each zone. Retain the measurement date and the person who checked it. An average taken from a few convenient points can miss a deep local hollow.

Keep a zone-by-zone calculation

Use columns for room or zone, area, average added depth, selected product, product coverage basis, calculated material, whole bags and preparation notes. Compute each zone independently, then add compatible material quantities. Keep patches or ramps outside a large-area average when they need a different product or treatment.

For products whose label gives consumption in kg per m² per mm, material mass = area in m² × depth in mm × stated consumption. For another coverage basis, use that product’s formula rather than forcing it into this one. The calculator below accepts metric consumption inputs in every edition. Convert measured area and depth to the labelled units first; do not enter square feet or inches in the metric fields. If the product gives a different coverage basis, confirm the conversion with its technical information before calculating.

Calculate bags using the selected product label

Illustrative inputs only: a 20 m² zone at an average 3 mm added depth, with an entered consumption of 1.5 kg per m² per mm, gives 90 kg. A chosen 10% allowance gives 99 kg. Dividing by an entered 20 kg bag weight gives 4.95 bags, rounded up to five. None of these inputs prescribes a product or allowable thickness.

Check the current technical sheet for substrate suitability, application depth, primer, preparation and curing requirements. Where moisture or movement is unresolved, record the investigation and keep the material order provisional. Do not use a mathematical quantity result as evidence that a compound can correct a structural issue.

Example inputs are editable. Confirm the selected product or project specification before using the result.

Enter your inputs and select Calculate quantity.

Explain why two levelling quotes differ

For a United Kingdom job, compare the same survey and finish target before comparing totals in GBP. One estimate may include grinding high spots, removing adhesive, moisture testing or repairs while another includes only the compound. A Calgary location, for example, identifies the project context rather than proving a local price or service offer.

The matching PDF provides a fictional itemised estimating example. Add the verified takeoff as a quantity line, with preparation and access separate. Keep the survey worksheet available alongside the quote and agree how newly discovered low spots will be handled. This makes a depth change explainable without presenting a provisional bag count as a fixed scope.

Common questions

Does a levelling worksheet prove that a floor is suitable?

No. It records measurements and quantity assumptions. The substrate, moisture condition, product compatibility and final finish requirement need separate verification.

Should I use the deepest point for the whole room?

Only if the specified build-up actually applies that depth throughout. Otherwise calculate measured zones and confirm their average added depths.
